A man wearing a ski mask hid in the back seat of a woman’s car and forced her to keep driving before assaulting her, the victim told Sauk Rapids Police.

The 56-year-old woman said she went inside a McDonald's in Sartell around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. When she returned to her car, she said a man was in the back seat and ordered her to keep driving.

According to Sartell Police Chief Jim Hughes, the woman said the suspect led her to a location where they met up with another man in a ski mask. The suspects allegedly demanded money from her and then drove her around the St. Cloud metro area. She said she was assaulted and choked unconscious during the incident.

The men eventually pushed her out of the vehicle near Coborn's Superstore in Sauk Rapids, where she was able to call for help, the police chief said.

Sauk Rapids Police found the vehicle abandoned and said the inside had been set on fire.

The woman was treated and released from St. Cloud Hospital. At this point it’s unclear if she was targeted or if it was a random act.

Police are reminding drivers to lock their vehicles and check the back seat before getting inside.
