The General Manager of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team had two successful surgeries after he was hit in the head with a hockey puck, according to his NHL team's website.

David Poile, who is also the Nashville Predators’ General Manager, was hit in the head while watching the Predators’ pre-game skate on Thursday. He was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he underwent two surgical operations in his nose and eye areas.

He received stitches to repair a laceration and will remain in the hospital, the team said. Poile was supposed to join Team USA at the Sochi Olympics, but will miss the charter flight.

"His return to Nashville is yet to be determined and is pending doctors’ evaluation and recommendation," according to the team's website. "At this point, he will not travel to Sochi as originally planned with Team USA on Sunday, but he does look forward to joining Team USA during the Olympics."

According to reports, Poile was standing in a tunnel watching the skate when he was hit. Michael Russo of the Star Tribune said via Twitter that Poile was hit above the eye and had a bloody nose, but was able to walk himself to a stretcher. Russo said Nashville players were passing by the boards near the bench and a pass ricocheted off a skate into Poile's face.

The Predators were in Minnesota Thursday to take on the Wild at the Xcel Energy Center. The Predator's television play-by-play broadcaster Pete Weber was also in the hospital Thursday morning for a heart procedure, which the team said went well. He will remain in the hospital recovering for the next couple days before returning to Nashville, the team said.
