For the first time in 15 months, the Minnesota Orchestra was back on stage, rehearsing for their opening night.

Concertgoers will be welcomed by both a newly renovated hall, and a slightly remodeled orchestra.  The full compliment of musicians tallies to 77, down eight from the orchestra's pre-lockout number of 85.

Tim Zavadil, a clarinet player for the orchestra, was glad to be back saying, "It was very emotional. There were a wide range of emotions. I think overall though the orchestra is just very eager and glad to be back playing music on stage with our colleagues."

So the musicians are back, but what about their former musical director Osmo Vanska? The orchestra's director of public relations Gwen Pappas said it's still up in the air. "It's a decision for the board to make, you know, and I think we just need to give the board the time and the space to do that," she said.

This weekend they'll be under the direction of 90-year-old Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, who opened the building back in 1974. Now 40 years later, he'll open it again.
