If you're hoping for a hasty end to winter, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Chief Meteorologist Dave Dahl says this year's winter weather pattern might match patterns that end as quickly as they start.

Dave says the jet stream moves in peaks and valleys, and our current weather pattern is in large part influenced by a valley and the bitter cold that comes with it. Dave says take heart, the jet streams valleys will eventually move on and our weather will begin to climb. "As we get into one of those peaks, I think we'll see it start to warm up," he says.

As the jet stream moves, according to Dahl, look for the mercury to climb, "We might lose the snow cover fairly quickly once the temps start to warm up, so even though we've had a thick blanket of snow and we've had it all winter long, I think we might see that disappear in March."
