There was a big finish Sunday afternoon for the City of Lakes Loppet with the first ever dogsled race through Minneapolis.
The 12-mile Subaru Dogsled Loppet kicked off in Theodore Wirth Park and the course stretched into Uptown. The course took nine teams over bridges and through tunnels.
The dogs and their mushers have been practicing for quite some time, and say it's about time the Twin Cities hosted an event like this.
Racers say it's incomparable to anything else. "Peacefulness. Being connected to the dogs. There's just nothing like it," said Melissa Domino of Chisago City.
