Former Mayor R.T. Rybak is getting back on his skis for the first time Saturday evening, since he had a heart attack a month ago.
He was joined by 7000 other cross country skiers to trek down a 2-mile course for the Luminary Loppet, stopping to check out lights and ice sculptures.
The mayor was in good spirits and even making jokes at Loppet Village near Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis.
Rybak said he he was not completely free to participate as he pleases.
"I feel incredibly good," Rybak said. "I feel good enough to ski a race, but my wife over there has one of those little kid harnesses they use in a shopping mall just to keep me from going out, but I'll ski a little tonight and, man, I'm definitely back next year."
