Humans and dogs alike are training for the first dogsled race ever through Minneapolis.

The Subaru Dogsled Loppet is a 12 mile course stretching from Theodore Wirth Park to Uptown. Organizers say it's about time the Twin Cities hosted a race like this.

"Minnesota and the Midwest in general is probably the strongest community outside of Alaska for the dog powered sports in general," said dog sledder Joe Fessler.

The race is part of the City of Lakes Loppet Festival.

You can see the dogs in action when the race kicks off on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. at Theodore Wirth Park.
