Even though most Minnesota school districts called off classes again Tuesday, a few decided to stay open. White Bear Lake schools was one.

They already had four days off from school in January alone, due to the weather.

However, the superintendent opted to re-open schools Tuesday; ultimately leaving the decision on whether kids go back to school up to parents.

On its website, the district wrote it felt it could safely get students to school without any problems.

It also emphasized that it would work with families to get kids back up to speed if parents felt it was too risky to send them to school in the cold temperatures.

School officials say 75 to 80 percent of their elementary students were in school and more than 80 percent of the middle school and high school students were in classes Tuesday.

Many parents told KSTP they were okay with the district's decision.

Several other districts are now trying to figure out how to make up these cold days.

Some districts, like Edina, are opting to squeeze in days that were previously late starts or teacher workshops.

Others may add the make-up days to the end of the school year when kids are ready to start their summer vacation.
