A 44-year-old Newport, Minn., woman was charged in the drug overdose death of her husband.
According to the Washington County Attorney's Office, Jennifer Marie Johnson was charged with third-degree murder in her husband's death, which occurred March 30, 2013.
Newport Police were called to the couple's home on a report of an unresponsive man. When they arrived, he was taken to Regions Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Johnson told police her husband had some beers, and she had filled up a syringe to give him 30-40 milligrams of her methadone, which he ingested.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled his death as "mixed drug toxicity."
Johnson faces a maximum sentence of 25 years with a fine of $40,000.
Johnson's husband's name has not been released.
