St. Paul Police confirmed they are investigating the Community School of Excellence Charter School (CSE), and people connected with the case at the school tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they have been questioned by the FBI about financial transactions at the St. Paul school.

A few months ago, an independent investigation found CSE had over-billed the government more than $200,000 for student meals. That same investigation criticized the school for not immediately telling law enforcement about possible child abuse cases.

Now, St. Paul Police are looking into the abuse cases that were not reported, and the FBI, according to people questioned about the case, is asking questions about the billing of the student meal program. Neither law enforcement agency was willing to talk about the investigations.

CSE Superintendent Moe Chang tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, the "school has been contacted by St. Paul Police and we are willing to work with them." Chang also says she has heard about the FBI investigation but has not been contacted by the agency.

But, Chang says, "We are willing to sit down with St. Paul Police, or the FBI, and talk about what we are doing at the school."

Chang says the school has made changes in its child abuse reporting policy and has also significantly changed its billing practices for the school meal program. Chang says the school "is very aware of how important the taxpayer money is, and we take it very seriously."
