We are learning new details about a head-on crash involving an ambulance and an SUV near Buffalo. The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Wright County Sheriff's Office, an Allina ambulance was headed west on County Road 35 when it collided with an eastbound SUV, driven by 51-year-old Marilyn Paumen of Monticello.

Three people inside the ambulance, including a patient, were injured. Paumen was also hurt. As of Monday night, an EMT and Paumen remain in critical condition.

Forty-three-year-old Tim Daly was driving the ambulance. Daly is a longtime volunteer firefighter and Allina Health EMT. He has been released from the hospital and is currently in a wheelchair with his legs in a cast and his face bruised. He didn't want to go on camera but he told KSTP he is feeling very sore.

Daly and 30-year-old paramedic Brian Nagel of Greenwood, were transported to Allina Hospital in Buffalo.

Paumen was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where Nagel was later transferred.

The patient in the ambulance had very minor injuries from the crash, according to authorities. The patient continued on to Allina Hospital in Buffalo in a different ambulance.

According to Brian LaCroix, president of Allina Health EMS, Daly helped on the scene, despite suffering from massive injuries.

When the crash occurred, Tim was driving and did his best to manage the situation – reportedly even attempting to render aid to others despite the fact that he himself suffered significant bilateral orthopedic injuries to both lower extremities,” LaCroix said. “Tim faces future corrective surgery and has been told to expect up to three months or so living from a wheel chair.”

Slippery road conditions due to overnight snowfall across the Twin Cities caused drivers problems throughout the morning on Saturday.

The crash remains under investigation.
