Family, Friends Mourn Death of Woodbury Teen

Loved ones will say goodbye to a Woodbury teenager Friday, who sources say died from a drug overdose.

A visitation for 17-year-old Tara Fitzgerald will be held at 4 p.m. at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Woodbury. Her funeral will be held Saturday.

Woodbury police are investigating Tara's death.

According to police, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive teen, later identified as Tara, at a home in the 3000 block of Commonwealth Avenue around 9:10 a.m. on Jan. 11.

Tara was taken to Regions Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

An 18-year-old man, identified as Cole Matenaer, and two 17-year-old boys were arrested on probable cause third degree murder after Tara died. Woodbury Police tell KSTP, all three suspects were released, pending further investigation. They have not been charged.

Matenaer could also face charges related to possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance.

The medical examiner will decide Tara's cause of death and toxicology reports could take up to eight weeks.

According to her obituary, Fitzgerald loved to skateboard, bake, make funny faces, had a love for everything British, especially British music.

At this point, additional details have not been released by police.
