Polk Co. Sheriff's Office Offers Reward for Information in Deadly Hit-and-Run

A $5,000 cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the driver of a deadly hit-and-run in Polk County, Wis.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Department, two men were killed in the hit-and-run, which occurred Saturday around 6:30 p.m. in the Round Lake Native American Community.

The victims were identified as 41-year-old Richard Cobenais Jr., of Rural Luck, Wis., and 28-year-old Benjamin Juarez, of Frederic, Wis. It is believed the men were involved in a physical altercation at a nearby residence before being hit by the vehicle.

Authorities believe the vehicle was simply passing through the Round Lake Community when it hit the two men.

The vehicle is described as a Ford 150 pickup. According to evidence left at the scene, the truck is either black or predominately black and is between a 1997 and 2003 model. The truck will likely have damage to its passenger side headlight assembly area.

Witnesses noticed a blue plastic barrel in the box of the truck.

The incident is being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff's Department and the St. Croix Tribal Police.
