Many Minnesotans have been affected by gun violence.
On Sunday afternoon, those families gathered to remember those lives lost. The "Remembrance of Life Event" took place at Church of the Ascension on Bryant Avenue in Minneapolis from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Heather Martens, organizer of Protect Minnesota, said the meeting is a way to talk about gun violence in the community.
Many of the people who were expected to attend the event have lost a child due to homicide or suicide, Martens said.
"It has a huge effect on us as Americans and as Minnesotans," Martens said. "One of the things that many people don't know is that four out of five gun deaths in Minnesota are suicides."
