Momentum for the Minnesota food scene is growing, thanks in part to one local chef.
Sarah Master, who heads up the kitchen at Barbette, was selected to compete in ABC's cooking competition show, "The Taste." She's hoping that national television exposure will shine a bright light on her city.
"Minneapolis is a legit food city, and you know, I'm really proud to be from Minnesota. I don't think we get the credit that we deserve here," said Master, who temporarily left the comfort of her kitchen to compete against other culinary powerhouses.
James Norton, Editor of the Twin Cities food website heavytable.com, thinks Master's appearance on the show could put the country on notice, saying "It used to be the case that restaurants all wanted to be Paris or all wanted to be New York, and I think Minneapolis-St. Paul restaurants are getting much more comfortable in their own skins and that's making for a lot better food overall."
If you want to go and test Master's food for yourself, you can stop into Barbette, but you better make it quick.
She told KSTP she is planning to leave Barbette and open her own restaurant in the near future.
