Betsy Hodges officially became the 47th mayor of Minneapolis on Thursday, becoming only the second woman to hold that job. She's also the first new mayor of Minneapolis in 12 years.

Among the many issues she'll soon face is the controversial Southwest Light Rail line that pits Minneapolis against St. Louis Park. Gov. Mark Dayton put a final decision on the route for that line to the West Metro after disagreements between the two cities over the re-routing of freight rail.

Public hearings regarding the light rail line will be held Jan. 7 in Minneapolis and Jan. 9 in St. Louis Park. If a compromise on the route can't be reached, it could jeopardize the entire project.

Hodges was sworn in Thursday, but her formal inauguration will take place at Minneapolis City Hall on Monday.
