Minneapolis has a new leader for the first time in 12 years.
Democrat Betsy Hodges took her oath Thursday as the new mayor, taking over as longtime Mayor R.T. Rybak moves on. The former Democratic city council member won election in November.
While Hodges officially took the reins of the state's largest city, another inauguration ceremony is planned for next Monday along with newly-elected members of the city council. Hodges will deliver an inauguration address at 9 a.m. in City Hall's Rotunda during that ceremony.
Thursday's festivities also kicked off a 10-day "One Minneapolis" tour with different themes each day.
Here is the schedule:
Thursday, January 2: Kids
Friday, January 3: Transportation
Saturday, January 4: Arts & Entertainment
Sunday, January 5: One Minneapolis
Monday, January 6: Inauguration
Tuesday, January 7: Public Safety
Wednesday, January 8: Economic Growth & Opportunity
Thursday, January 9: Sustainability
Friday, January 10: Winter Tourism
Saturday, January 11: One Minneapolis
Across the Mississippi River, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman was sworn for his third-term. A public inauguration ceremony for Coleman will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Union Depot.
In Moorhead, Del Rae Williams is set to become that city's first woman as mayor. She'll be formally sworn in at the Jan. 13 city council meeting.
