The University of Minnesota Duluth student found unconscious after nine hours in subzero temps earlier this month is coming to terms with what has happened and what's in store, according to her family.

On Wednesday, Alyssa Lommel's mother updated her CaringBridge site saying it appears her daughter is starting to accept the way things are going to be.

Lommel just recently learned her fingers and toes will be amputated.

Lommel has a special walker that she used to help her walk to the door and back Tuesday, Lommel's mother said.

However, her recovery is still a struggle. Lommel’s mother said her daughter feels nauseous almost all the time.

Doctors could remove her feeding tube Thursday or Friday.

Police say Lommel, a sophomore from St. Cloud, had been out drinking with friends Dec. 6 and was dropped off at her Duluth house about midnight.

A passer-by spotted Lommel on the front porch of the house next door. She suffered severe hypothermia.

A benefit will be held Sunday, Jan. 5, for Lommel.

The benefit will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blue Line South, at 1004 Sunridge Dr. in St Cloud. The event will have a spaghetti dinner, meat raffle and silent auction.

All the proceeds will go to the Alyssa Lommel fund at Bremer Bank.
