After decades of waiting a metro Vietnam veteran finally received the military honor he had been waiting for.
Fred Jenness, a retired Navy combat engineer from Golden Valley, was injured during an enemy attack on his compound.
But, because of a paperwork error, Jenness never received the award.
U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar presented Jenness with the Purple Heart on Monday at a special ceremony. "Here is a man who fought for this country, who while he was injured didn't just retreat, he actually fired back at the enemy and ended the attack by doing that, and he needed to be recognized for doing that and that's what this Purple Heart is about today," she said.
The Purple Heart is the nation's oldest military decoration still in use.
