The former treasurer of a North Metro Parent-Teacher Organization who is accused of stealing thousands of dollars is expected to be sentenced Tuesday.

Thirty-one-year-old Melissa O’Brien admitted to stealing nearly $55,000 from the PTO at Oxbow Creek Elementary School in Champlin. The funds were raised by parents, relatives, and friends and would have gone to pay for programs to benefit children, including the woman's own three kids.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says she was supposed to be sentenced in September but skipped the hearing.

Her husband, Dustin O’Brien, is also charged in the case.
