Friends and family are mourning the death of 19-year-old Jake Anderson who was found dead early Sunday morning near the Stone Arch Bridge. Police are releasing few details in Anderson's death, although they say foul play is not suspected.
Anderson's parents say he was walking a girl home from a party, and on his way back he fell and hit his head. The area where Anderson's body was found Sunday morning is snowy, and temperatures dipped below zero Saturday night.
At Orono High School, Anderson is being remembered as a popular, dedicated athlete. He played lacrosse and football.
Monday morning, some of his former teammates decorated the rock in front of the school in his honor. "He was one of those guys you love to have on the team because he motivates everyone to be great," said his former football coach, Jeff Weiland.
"He was a reference point for the whole class. Everybody liked and admired him," said David Herring, one of Anderson's former teachers.
Anderson was just finishing his first semester at the University of Minnesota. His mom said he was the happiest he'd ever been in his life since he started college.
The university is encouraging students to utilize counseling resources on campus if they need to talk over the next few days.
