Governor Mark Dayton is responding to what republicans are calling a "conflict of interest" within his office.
Dayton's chief of staff, Tina Smith, is also the chairperson of the board overseeing development of Mayo Clinic's Destination Medical Center Corporation.
The state granted half-a-billion dollars to the clinic's expansion, and some are calling the situation troubling and an ethical concern.
“For anyone to question her integrity or ethics in the position I think is ludicrous and just an attempt to get some attention, which they're getting it now,” said Dayton.
Dayton says he appointed Smith to the position and he's certain she will do a good job.
This week GOP Representative Peggy Scott (R-Andover) wrote Dayton a letter expressing her concern, "I find your acceptance of her dual roles to be troubling and a massive ethical concern for the state."
