The University of Minnesota sent out a crime alert Monday to warn students of an attempted armed-robbery near campus in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood.
According to the Crime Alert, the victim, who is not a student, was scraping the windshield of her car in front of a residence at 13th Avenue Southeast and 8th Street Southeast around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
A man approached her, threatened her with a handgun and demanded money. When the victim's boyfriend came out of the residence, the man left the area.
The suspect had a hooded sweatshirt tied tight around his face, so there isn't a good description of him. Officers were unable to find him.
Minneapolis Police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477 and reference case number MP-13-407893.
This robbery comes during a rise in crime in the area this fall semester. In November, a suspect tried to kidnap a student on campus.
A student was also recently kidnapped near campus by someone impersonating an officer and was sexually assaulted.
The U of M has increased patrols in the area due to the rise in crime.
