Medical Examiner: Inmate Murdered by Strangulation in Stillwater

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the murder of an inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights in Stillwater.

According to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner, 30-year-old Shane Cooper died of homicide due to strangulation. He was found shortly before 5 p.m. Monday with a "ligature" around his neck.

The only suspect in his death is another inmate, 39-year-old Benjamin Beck. According to the BCA, surveillance video shows Beck going into Cooper's cell shortly before his body was found.

This case is under investigation. At this point, additional details have not been released.
