The death of a baby boy Monday morning is being investigated in the Highland Park area of St. Paul.

It's not everyday you see police cars in the area and that's why people like living in the neighborhood. It's quiet and peaceful.

However, on Monday morning that changed.

"I heard a woman crying," said Jesse Zepeda, a resident of the Woodstone Apartments at 2335 Stewart Avenue.

Zepeda noticed more commotion down the hallway of the complex.  It was just after 8 a.m. when the call of an infant not breathing came across the police radio, "it's a three month old."

The sight of so many police cars, officers carrying multiple bags of evidence and eventually a hearse, gave a neighbor walking her dog the chills, "that gives me the goose bumps, because I'm really worried about what happened," said Diane Brown.

Police took the parents in for questioning, but no one's been arrested.

Investigators at the scene tell KSTP reporter Beth McDonough the death is being investigated as "suspicious." However, Sgt. Paul Paulos with the St. Paul Police Department tells KSTP the investigation into the death of the infant is just an investigation at this time. It has not been labeled as suspicious. Paulos says they won't know if it's suspicious until the medical examiner report comes back.

A community-wide email was sent out and management assured other residents there is no threat to their safety, and there's been a tragic incident.

Authorities are not releasing names at this point since no one has been arrested.
