Authorities on South Dakota's Rosebud Indian Reservation have opened an investigation into alleged sexual abuse of children by a Minnesota priest.

Supervisory special agent Grace Her Many Horses says authorities will try to locate several men who as boys may have been sexually abused by the Rev. Clarence Vavra.

She tells Minnesota Public Radio News authorities also will try to interview Vavra and officials with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Vavra self-reported in 1995 that he had sexual contact with several boys while working on the Rosebud reservation in 1975. Vavra was removed from ministry in 2003.

A message left on a phone number associated with Vavra's home was not immediately returned Tuesday. A spokesman tells MPR the archdiocese has not been contacted by law enforcement.
