A 19-year-old man was acquitted Friday in the group beating of a St. Paul man last August.

Issac Maiden was found not guilty by a Ramsey County jury on assault and robbery charges in the attack on Ray Widstrand.

"While we are disappointed with the Jury’s verdict, we will respect it and move forward to the remaining cases.  We remain committed to holding accountable those who were involved in the senseless beating of Ray Widstrand,” said Dennis Gerhardstein, PIO for the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.

After the verdict, Judge Salvador Rosas told Maiden, "You dodged one here."
Prosecutors argued that credible witnesses identified Maiden as one of the attackers. Maiden's attorney said his client had nothing to do with the beating.
Police say Widstrand was taking a late-night walk on St. Paul's East Side on Aug. 4 when he tried to walk through a group of 30 to 50 juveniles and young adults who were fighting.

Widstrand suffered severe head injuries and is still recovering. One juvenile pleaded guilty to the attack, three others still have their cases going through the courts.
