The firearms deer hunting season opened Saturday and the state says it's looking good this year.
Biologists from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources say the deer population is stable due to mild winters and good conservation efforts. But, hunters could find conditions more challenging due to the late corn harvest since there's still a good amount of standing corn.
Last year, about 500,000 deer hunters killed less than 200,000 deer. A similar harvest is expected this season.
