A Minnesota Department of Transportation worker was hit by a vehicle while removing debris from Interstate 94 eastbound at 42nd Avenue in Minneapolis.

The worker, Kenneth Moreau, suffered non-life threatening injuries when he was hit just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. As of Monday night, Moreau is still in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition at North Memorial Medical Center.

The State Patrol says the driver, 24-year-old Jared Magnuson of Oakdale, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of careless driving, open bottle, no Minnesota driver's license and giving false information to police.

According to the State Patrol, Moreau was wearing his reflective gear and had his orange flashing lights on when he pulled toward the median to pick up a mattress in the middle of I-94. Magnuson pulled over after he hit Moreau and called 9-1-1.

This is the second time in five years a MNDot employee has been hit on the side of the road. According to MNDot, usually workers are able to jump out of the way of danger.
