A deadly shooting at a downtown Minneapolis night club has the attention of the Minneapolis Police Chief.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau walked with officers through downtown on Sunday night after a man was shot and killed at Epic Nightclub. The victim was identified as 27-year-old Tyrone Washington.

Chief Harteau wants downtown businesses and visitors to know the area is safe and that police are working overtime to keep it that way. Chief Harteau did say she wants the city to look at Epic's liquor license and security team.

Harteau would like the city to have the regulatory authority to review certain types of bands and performers before the come to downtown nightclubs and have the power to say "no" to performers who are known to cause trouble in other cities before they get to Minneapolis.

Harteau says police over the last two years have responded to more than 150 police calls at Epic.

The shooting happened during a rap concert at the club early Sunday morning, about an hour before bar close, according to police.

The initial investigation indicates the man was shot inside the club during an argument with the suspect.

Officers arrived to find Washington's body on the sidewalk. According to Minneapolis Police, he was dragged outside; police attempted to perform CPR, but Washington died.

There were so many people rushing around as police tried to investigate that they had to partially close the light rail. The train was shut down around 1:40 a.m. from the Warehouse District to Target Field.

Hundreds of rowdy concert-goers were outside on the sidewalk at Fifth Street and First Avenue as dozens of police tried to get a handle on the situation.

Police say the suspect ran away from the scene.

Yo Gotti was performing at Epic on Saturday night.

Anyone with information is asked to call Minneapolis Police Department at 612-692-8477.
