The weekend before Halloween is a popular one for parties, but the Department of Public Safety is warning motorists that police won't put up with any tricks.
DPS says authorities statewide are cracking down on impaired drivers this weekend. Officials are urging partygoers to plan a sober ride before donning their costumes.
The state's Office of Traffic Safety says seven people were killed and 27 others were seriously injured in drunken driving crashes during Halloween party weekends in the last five years.
More than 2,400 motorists were arrested for drunken driving on those party weekends during that same period.
DPS also wants to remind motorists to watch for pedestrians on Halloween - as children will be out trick-or-treating.
