The Hennepin County sheriff's office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that killed a southern Minnesota man in Minnetonka.
Police say officers were called to an apartment building around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report about a person with a gun. Arriving officers found a man with a gun in the underground garage.
Details are limited, but police say shots were fired and the man died at the scene.
The Hennepin County medical examiner's office identifies the man who died as 27-year-old Michael Regner Tray of Austin, Minn. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Names of the Minnetonka police officers who were involved in the shooting will be released early next week.
On Thursday, a man who identifies himself as a friend of the person who died (Tray), said Tray was at the complex to visit his girlfriend.
He said Tray went to the apartment where a roommate noticed the gun, kicked him out and then called police. His girlfriend was on her way home at the time and arrived to the police scene.
The friend says Tray may have been carrying the gun because of a recent string of car break ins at the complex.
Police call it an isolated incident, and say residents don't need to fear for their safety.
