The three women kidnapped by Ariel Castro will receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation if a bill is passed by Ohio state lawmakers.

According to the legislation of the “Survivor’s Bill,” Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight would get up to $25,000 for each year they spent in captivity in Castro’s house. It’s about $900,000 collectively.

Some Republican lawmakers say that using taxpayer money to determine which victims are most “worthy” is unfair.

The bill passed easily through a committee this week.
