The two Minneapolis Police officers who were shot during the arrest of Terrance Franklin were honored with the Purple Heart Saturday.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department's Facebook page, Officer Ricardo Muro and Officer Michael Meath received the award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart's First Responder program, which honors wounded or killed Minnesota officers for their sacrifices in the line of duty.

The incident with the 22-year-old Franklin happened in the basement of a home in South Minneapolis. Police said Franklin grabbed one of the officer's guns and shot the officers. Two officers then returned fire, hitting Franklin eight times in the head, neck and torso.

Franklin was killed, and officers Ricardo Muro and Michael Meath were hit with gunfire. Both survived.

Last month, a grand jury cleared the officers in the shooting. Franklin's family says they want the Federal Government and the Justice Department to step in.
