Minnesota officials are encouraging consumer advisers called "navigators" to complete training so they can help shoppers on the state's new health insurance exchange.

MNsure executive director April Todd-Malmlov said Tuesday that consumers will benefit once more navigators are available.

Since launching last week, MNsure has suffered from technical glitches that have blocked some users from creating accounts.

Todd-Malmlov says there have been about 30,000 unique visitors to the MNsure website since it launched. Of those visitors, about 6,600 individuals created accounts that allow them to obtain coverage, while about 200 small business owners also have created accounts.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports a directory on Tuesday afternoon listed just 10 navigators, even though about 2,500 people have indicated an interest in serving in the new advisory role.
