Police believe a University of Minnesota student was killed in Rosemount the day she went missing.

Anarae Schunk, 20, was last seen Sept. 22 in Rosemount, according to police. Schunk's body was found days later on Sept. 30 in rural Rice County. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office identified the body as Schunk's the following day.

The investigation into her death is ongoing, according to Rosemount police, the agency leading the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Dakota County Attorney's Office for charging.

Charges are not expected for several weeks, police stated.

The investigation is related to another investigation into the death of Palagor Obang Jobi, which has resulted in murder charges in Dakota County District Court. However, the cases are being treated as separate, independent investigations, police reported.

Schunk's body was found near a farm outside of Londsale, according to authorities.

Volunteers were searching for Schunk in the southern Twin Cities suburbs. Police last weekend reported finding additional evidence that led officers to believe that Schunk was the victim of a homicide.

Shooting in Burnsville

Schunk disappeared following the shooting death of 23-year-old Jobi on Sept. 22 at Nina's Grill in Burnsville, according to police.

Police say Schunk was with her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Shavelle Chavez-Nelson, who has been charged in connection with the shooting. Chavez-Nelson's current girlfriend, 24-year-old Ashley Conrade, also has been charged in the incident.

Chavez-Nelson and Jobi reportedly got into a fight before the shooting. Conrade told police that Schunk returned to Conrade's townhouse in Rosemount with her and Chavez-Nelson following the shooting. That's where the trail ended for Schunk.

Schunk reconnected with Chavez-Nelson in hopes of recovering a $5,000 loan he never repaid. Her brother says police told their family they found his sister's white jacket with a U of M logo, covered with blood and 18 to 20 holes that may indicate she was stabbed.

Investigators haven't elaborated on what evidence they found, or where they found it.

Investigation into Schunk's Death

Schunk was a junior at the University of Minnesota, studying sociology. Chavez-Nelson and Schunk dated for a couple of months last year, Schunk's brother told KSTP.

Chavez-Nelson has a long history of crime. Conrade was charged with aiding an offender in the shooting death at the bar.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies are assisting Rosemount police with their investigation.
