Four people were killed, including an 11-year-old girl, in a head-on collision in Le Sueur County on Friday night.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Jeffery Miller of Le Center was eastbound on County Road 26 when it collided with a vehicle driving westbound. The crash happened just after 10 p.m., about four miles west of Montgomery.
According to a preliminary investigation, the westbound vehicle, driven by 51-year-old Condon Hulgan of Montgomery, crossed the center line before the crash. Hulgan and his passenger, 11-year-old Mary Urtuzuastegui of Montgomery, were both killed. Urtuzuastegui was Hulgan's stepdaughter.
Jeffery Miller and his passenger, 24-year-old Travis Reak of Le Center, died at the scene. Another passenger in Miller’s vehicle, 24-year-old Mark Miller of Le Center, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Mark Miller was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. The three men were not wearing seat belts.
The state patrol did not know if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The road was dry at the time, but there is a sharp turn where the crash happened. The speed limit is 55 mph.
Meanwhile, Urtuzuastegui's school is remembering her as a great spirit and always willing to help out.
Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School Principal Mindy Reeder says Urtuzuastegui was in the youth choir, and also the school's Spirit Club.
"I woke up to the tragedy this morning and it's just something that you know is just sometimes gonna happen but you don't really prepare yourself for it," said Reeder.
Friends and family of Urtuzuastegui have set up a fund at Frandsen Bank and Trust of Montgomery. If you would like to donate and support the family call: 507-364-7331.
