Strong thunderstorms moved through the Twin Cities on Thursday, dropping quarter-size hail in some areas. Rain was expected to continue until 8 p.m.

Damage

One person suffered minor injuries after a large tree fell on a vehicle driving on Jefferson Street in Hutchinson. There have also been several reports of trees down in Anoka and Isanti Counties, and a tree reportedly went into a house in Rush City.

Strong lightening likely jumped from a tree to a house, starting a fire in its garage at West 98th Street and Wentworth Avenue South in Bloomington, according to firefighters.

A Metro Transit bus driver reported seeing a large tree on car at the intersection of 37th Avenue Northeast and Second 1/2 Street Northeast in Minneapolis.

Tree limbs blocked the southbound lanes of Wright County Road 8. Street flooding also was reported in downtown Monticello at Highway 25.

Thousands reported power outages in the west and north metro, including the cities of Golden Valley, Plymouth and Arden Hills, according to Xcel Energy. Power outage updates can be found here.

Officials warn there could be damage to roofs, siding and trees. Damaging winds and continuous cloud-to-ground lightning were expected with this storm.

Friday is expected to be much cooler and blustery with highs only in the low- to mid-60s. Thunderstorms are again a possibility on Monday.
