Minnetrista Development Could Increase Population by 25%
Minnetrista could see a huge population expansion over the next decade, all linked to one single project.
The City Council recently approved a new development on the Western edge of Lake Minnetonka. Over the next 10 years, the Woodland Cove project will bring nearly 1,100 homes to a 500 acre site owned by Carlson Real Estate Company, according to City Administrator Mike Funk.
Funk also explains that the town currently has about 2,200 homes. So this project alone, he says, will boost the population by approximately 25 percent.
Funk explains, "Minnetrista being on the farthest west end of Hennepin County, we understand growth is coming west a lot of the growth is coming this way."
Some residents are critical of the change, having moved to the rural town for its peace and quiet. Funk says that since the town is 80 percent undeveloped, this change will not be drastic.
He also adds, "with development you do get added tax base and growth is very healthy for cities."
