Mpls. Mayor Candidates Debate Southwest LRT
Five major candidates for mayor of Minneapolis took part in an early morning debate Wednesday at Thrivent Financial headquarters downtown.
The candidates included Mark Andrew, Jackie Cherryhomes, Betsy Hodges, Don Samuels and Cam Winton. They are five of 35 candidates who will be on the ballot in the city's first mayoral race decided by "ranked choice" voting.
The debate was sponsored by the Minneapolis Chamber, Downtown Council, Meet Minneapolis and the Building Owners and Managers (BOMA) Association.
The candidates debated everything from light rail transit to education to crime and everything in between.
On the Southwest Light Rail Transit issue, several of the candidates favor finding a whole new route to get around major problems in the Kenilworth corridor in Minneapolis and St. Louis Park.
