Strong storms are expected to roll through the metro Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a majority of Minnesota, including the metro until 9 P.M. Parts of Northwestern Wisconsin are included too.
Severe thunderstorms were rapidly moving across western and central Minnesota, where severe thunderstorm warnings were issued. There were reports nickle sized hail and 70 mph wind gusts.
KSTP.com meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas said the storms could approach the Twin Cities from the west by 7 p.m.
“Between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. thunderstorms are expected to move through the metro area and could produce winds of 60 mph, on the leading edge of the storms and large hail,” said Jonathan.
The thunderstorms may also produce brief heavy downpours that could cause spot flooding.
The risk for severe thunderstorms will be over by 10 p.m. as cooler more stable air arrives from north winds, said Jonathan.
