The heat is taking its toll on places you wouldn't expect.
One metro police chief has asked his officers to ease up on traffic stops and save their energy for more important calls.
Edina Police Chief Jeff Long sent out a tweet Tuesday afternoon saying he's instructed officers to stay fresh for calls that may require exertion.
"They're not doing anybody any good if they get hurt or they are too hot... because we are the rescuers for the people that are overheating."
The chief says the uniform that officers wear, that includes a bullet proof vest, can be the equivalent of 20-40 extra layers.
He added this isn't an excuse for drivers to speed, because his officers still will give out tickets.
Edina recently came in third in the metro area for the amount of tickets its officers handed out.
