Family IDs Victims in North Minneapolis Shooting

Family members have identified the toddler, teenager and woman who were shot in North Minneapolis Tuesday.
Family members tell KSTP 14-month-old Mykaliah Smith, 17-year-old Javar Smith and 19-year-old Trenay Garner all suffered non-life threatening injuries. They say Garner is pregnant.
Minneapolis police are searching for a suspect in this case. The shooting occurred in front of a North Minneapolis home at 30th and Lyndale Avenue North around 5:30 p.m., according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
According to police, the toddler was shot in the shoulder and suffered non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to North Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Javar Smith and Garner were both shot in the leg.
Garner was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Javar Smith was taken by private vehicle to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
Police say the suspect left the area after the shooting. Officers are canvassing the neighborhood. Anyone with information is asked to call 612-692-TIPS.
At 3 p.m. Wednesday, community leaders will be coming together in response to the shooting. Also Wednesday, people will be gathering in Minneapolis, pushing for Congress to pass stricter gun laws. The group Organizing for Action will be meeting at 7 p.m. at North Area Park on James Avenue North.
