Minneapolis Public Schools is projecting its first increase in high school enrollment since 2003.
Superintendent Bernadia Johnson says it's an important milestone for the school system, "It means that parents are choosing us, choosing us more, and we're retaining more students."
According to the district, total enrollment in 2003 was 40,402 students in kindergarten through 12th grades, bottoming out in 2010 at 32,263 students.
This year, the district is projecting an additional 350-450 new students in grades 1 through 5, between 200 and 250 additional students in middle school, and up to 100 more students in the high schools.
