Warmer than normal temperatures are returning to the Twin Cities, with a shot of rain this week.

KSTP.com meteorologist Dave Dahl said high temperatures will probably end up being 10 to 15 degrees above average for the first part of the week, with readings getting into the low to mid 90s each day.

On Monday, the temperature hit 87 degrees at 4 p.m., making it the warmest day so far this month. It was also the warmest we've felt since July 22, when it was 88 degrees.

It's also been nearly two weeks since we've seen measurable rainfall in the metro. Dave said a cool front may help relieve our dry weather problem.

"Right now it looks as though there'll be at least a small chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night,” said Dave.

The first day of the State Fair on Thursday still looks dry and a little more comfortable with highs in the mid 80s. Friday should end up being very similar.

There is also a chance of rain in the extended forecast. Dave said we usually only get two or three days with some rain during the 12 day run of the State Fair. He said this year we might end up with a few more days than that.

He said right now it's too early to tell exactly where the rain will fall.
