The suspect who shot a Crow Wing County Sheriff's deputy in the arm was killed by deputies, according to Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl.
Dahl tells KSTP the suspect, a 50-year-old man from the area, called 911. He said there was something wrong and he needed authorities there very soon.
When deputies arrived to the scene on Sleepy Hollow Road, just south of Brainerd near Crow Wing Lake, the suspect ran into the woods. Deputies heard a shot and the suspect ran into his tree stand. Deputies called in back-up along with their armored vehicle.
The sheriff's department tried negotiations, including non-deadly gas to get him down. The suspect eventually came down and then he went back up into the tree stand and grabbed a gun. According to Dahl, the suspect shot one deputy. Deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.
The deputy was shot in the arm, and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. He's expected to be released from the hospital later Wednesday night.
Two deputies, who fired their weapons, will be placed on administrative leave.
At this point additional details have not been released.
