A St. Paul man who was beaten nearly to death earlier this month is being taken out of a medically-induced coma.
Ray Widstrand, 26, was jumped around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, by a group of about 40 to 50 people in the area of Preble Street and Minnehaha Avenue, according to police.
Police found Widstrand on the ground, bleeding at the scene.
Widstrand's CaringBridge website reported Monday, Aug. 12, "We ask that everyone keep Ray in your thoughts during the next few days while the sedatives leave Ray's system. Ray will have a very quiet next two days as his body heals."
Widstrand remains in stable but critical condition, according to the site.
Many of the people who attacked Widstrand have been linked to local gangs, according to police. Three juveniles have been arrested, in addition to 19-year-old Isaac Maiden.
Police anticipate that more arrests could be made.
