Roseville Police Chase Ends with Body Pulled from Lake
A man is dead after leading Roseville police on a high-speed chase and trying to hide in a swamp area Saturday night.
According to Roseville police, it all started during a routine traffic stop for a broken tail light around 9:30 p.m.
The suspect increased speed and headed north on Cleveland Avenue towards County Road E2 for at least three miles, according to police. Officers then lost sight of the vehicle as they approached the "T" intersection at County Road E2.
Officers patrolled the area and eventually found the suspect's vehicle abandoned and crashed into the woods in Arden Hills.
A canine track led officers to the south side of Ferrel's Lake where they saw the man hiding in the water about 50 yards from shore.
Officers ordered the suspect to the shoreline, but he refused. Officers then jumped into the water when the man looked like he was having difficulty staying above water.
After about five minutes of searching, police called in dive teams.
At about 10:15 p.m. Saturday the New Brighton and lake Johanna Fire Department Water Rescue Teams pulled the man from the water. He was rushed to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The man is believed to have drowned. The Roseville Police Department is continuing to investigate.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
