A University of South Dakota runner has been identified as the jogger hit and killed on a road Thursday in Wright County.
Phillip Gregory LaVallee, 19, of Otsego, was hit by a van about 12:09 p.m. on the 8300 block of County Road 19 in Otsego, northwest of the Twin Cities, according to the Wright County Sheriff's Office.
He was running near his home, reported the Argus Leader.
The van's driver was Linda Louise Gullickson, 67, of Albertville.
An initial investigation revealed that the 2007 Toyota van was northbound on County Road 19 when it crossed the center line and hit LaVallee, who was jogging southbound on the shoulder of the road, the sheriff's office reported.
LaVallee was killed at the scene. Gullickson was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale for injuries suffered in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff's Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
Jackrabbits coach Rod DeHaven says LaVallee was incredibly well liked and respected, and it's going to tough on the coaches and kids in the program.
LaVallee placed 15th at the Summit League cross country meet as a true freshman last fall.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
