Hundreds Support 2 Crystal Officers Alleging Retaliation
Hundreds turned out at the Crystal City Council meeting Monday to show their support for two officers who have been on leave for months.
It was standing-room only and the mayor broke protocol to listen to the supporters of the officers.
Veterans of the force, Rob Erkenback and Alan Watt, say they were retaliated against because they spoke out about the way an investigation into a drug raid was handled by their department.
Officer Erkenback's niece, Kari Miller, says the family is just looking for answers. She says, "They've put out their complaints, made it very clear to everyone what they've seen, and they've both filed affidavit's saying, 'Open up my files, see anything you want to see,' and we still have no answers as to why they can't work."
Mayor Jim Adams and councilmembers met in closed session with the police chief after the council meeting. Chief Stephanie Revering has not given an official reason for placing the officers on leave.
The officers have filed complaints with the council and have hired an attorney.
